Hey everyone! Quite a bit happened in the world of WWE, so I'm asking the top 3 burning questions that arose from WWE TV this week.
3. How long will the Spirit Squad stick around?
The SmackDown before Dolph Ziggler captured the Intercontinental Championship, two-fifths of the original Spirit Squad (Kenny and Mikey) made a surprise return to beat up their former stablemate. While it appeared to be a one-time stint, the renewed Spirit Squad have been sticking their noses in Ziggler's business ever since. They assisted The Miz in his attempt to end Ziggler's career at No Mercy. Last week they faced Ziggler in a 2-on-1 handicapped match. Then this week, the duo teamed up with The Miz and defeated the team of Smackdown Tag Team Champs Heath Slater and Rhyno and Ziggler.
Obviously, the Spirit Squad's involvement is helping to further along the feud between Ziggler and The Miz, but with a win over the tag team champs, one might wonder once the feud is over if the two will try their hand at another title run (they were World Tag Team Champions after all). If not a tag team title run, Survivor Series is around the corner. It will be interesting to see if duo will stick around to represent the blue brand in the 10-on-10 tag team elimination match.
2. What future role will James Ellsworth play in WWE World Championship title picture?
The first time the WWE Universe saw James Ellsworth (the skinny chicken on the left) was in July as a jobber to Braun Strowman. After his decimation, no one would have guessed that he would show up again. Yet, here we are several months later and the local wrestler who isn't even on the WWE roster has accomplished something that neither John Cena nor Dean Ambrose have done: earn not just one, but two wins over AJ Styles! Sure, the first win wasn't exactly clean and the second was a result of a disqualification on AJ's part, but a win's a win! Not only that, but Ellsworth's second match against AJ was for the WWE World Championship!
I would continue to call him a jobber, but the fact is I absolutely love the guy! As crazy and ridiculous it is to see this guy in the same ring as the "Phenomenal One," it's great to see the little guy earn his fifteen minutes of fame. While Ambrose has been using him to get under the champ's skin, Ellsworth has gained a major following. The guy's even got a t-shirt available that's currently outselling Goldberg, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins merchandise. With a major following and two wins in the WWE record book over the current champ, there's no telling what WWE will do with Ellsworth. Maybe a triple threat for the WWE World title at Survivor Series?
1. Is this the beginning of the end for Jeri-KO??
Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens, according to them, their friendship is unparalleled. But it didn't seem that way on Monday. To prove he could beat the former WWE champ by himself, Jericho challenged Seth Rollins to rematch and stressed that he didn't want his best friend at ringside. Owens didn't take that very well, but eventually agreed to his best friend's wishes. But lo and behold, halfway through the match, Owens makes his way to ring, a decision that cost Jericho the match. Afterwards, the two best friends get into it backstage (check out video above).
WWE has been dropping hints at Jeri-KO's breaking up for a while, so it' no surprise. Plus, with Jericho leaving near the end of this year, there has been speculation that Jericho and Owens would go to war over the WWE Universal Title soon. While the two didn't end their friendship on Monday, expect the triple threat featuring Jericho, Owens and Rollins next week, to be the next major blow. Who knows? It might lead to a triple threat for the title at Hell in a Cell.
